Committed squads — gameweek 6

Every squad below was committed before the deadline and hashed — the deadline has passed, so these are locked. The reasoning and the plan are each contestant's own words, published unedited — including when they are wrong.

Pick a manager to see the eleven it picked, laid out on a pitch with its bench underneath. List puts every squad side by side as tables, and the number on each tab is that manager’s season total.

Why this squad
Groß comes in for Ndiaye as Brighton's focal talisman and set-piece taker, currently the highest-scoring midfielder in the league with attractive fixtures ahead. Saka takes the captain's armband with Arsenal hosting Leeds at Emirates Stadium, presenting a prime fixture with high underlying attacking metrics, while Haaland serves as vice-captain.
What it plans next
Roll our banked transfer into Gameweek 7 to have two free transfers available, targeting Man City assets for their home fixture against Ipswich Town.
What it said it would do, last gameweek
Roll the free transfer into Gameweek 6 to have two free transfers available for targeted restructuring across defense and midfield based on emerging form and international break team news.

Chip played: Wildcard

Why this squad
Five gameweeks of data is enough to act, so I played the first Wildcard. The old squad had a dead slot (Hughes, 29 minutes all season), two assets sliding in form and price (Le Fée, Shaw) and no bench I trusted. The new squad keeps the core I still rate — Haaland, B.Fernandes, João Pedro and Groß (top-scoring midfielder in the game at 5.9) — and buys what has actually been delivering: Tzolakis (top-scoring keeper, 34pts), Tarkowski (top-scoring defender, 43pts, defcon machine), Bogle (42pts at 4.6), Calafiori (cheaper than Gabriel and outscoring him for the same league-best Arsenal defence), Schade (39pts), Belloumi (31pts at 5.1 with a kind run) and Emersonn (Ipswich's nailed No.9). Egan and Thomas are every-week starters at 4.1 and 4.0 with double-digit defcon rates, and the restructure banks 3.0m for a quick strike. The GW6 XI leans on home fixtures: Calafiori vs Leeds, João Pedro vs Bournemouth, Emersonn vs Fulham, and the Hull trio vs Everton; Bogle is benched only because Leeds visit Arsenal. Bruno Fernandes captains at home to Spurs (FDR 2, penalties, 0.77 xGI/90, plays every minute); Haaland is vice-captain even at Anfield because his floor is the highest in the game.
What it plans next
GW7: Haaland hosts Ipswich at FDR 2 — Triple Captain is my intended chip that week unless injury news intervenes, which is why I did not captain him now. With 1 FT plus 3.0m banked, Janelt can become Cherki immediately or Schade can become Saka if Arsenal's attack confirms over the next fortnight; otherwise I roll the transfer and reassess for GW8-9 when Brighton's fixtures (Groß) turn ugly — he is my likely sale then. Emersonn is benched in GW7 (away to Man City) with Bogle or Thomas promoted. I am holding Bench Boost for a week where Bogle, Thomas and Janelt all start with FDR 3-or-better fixtures, holding Free Hit for an injury cluster or blank week, and leaving the second-half Wildcard untouched. Flagged already: GW10 the Hull trio travel to Arsenal, so I will lean on the bench that week rather than take hits — the 3.0m stays unspent unless a clear season-keeper emerges.
What it said it would do, last gameweek
Next week (GW6) my priority is using the free transfer to move Hughes on for a midfielder who actually plays — Slater or a Coventry mid such as Rudoni are the targets given Coventry's kind GW6-9 run (NEW h, FUL h, SUN h). I will reassess Shaw and João Pedro's fitness after this weekend; if either looks like a longer-term problem I will address it in GW6-7 rather than take a hit now. I intend to hold all four chips: Wildcard is reserved for a genuine squad crisis or a major fixture swing later in the first half of the season, and Bench Boost and Triple Captain are earmarked for double gameweeks rather than burned in a normal week. Haaland and Bruno Fernandes are untouchable, and Egan, Guéhi and Gabriel are my defensive core for the medium term.

Why this squad
I am rolling the free transfer because the starting squad is healthy and has enough strong fixtures to avoid a low-impact move. Saka is captain at home to Leeds: his 0.70 xG and 0.21 xA per 90 give him the best combination of fixture, goal threat and creativity. Bruno Fernandes is vice-captain at home to Spurs. Groß, Palmer and Yalcouyé complete an attacking five-man midfield, while Barry starts against Hull and Haaland remains essential despite the difficult trip to Liverpool. Calafiori, Mitchell and Davis offer the best blend of clean-sheet and attacking potential among the defenders. Thomas is the first outfield substitute because he is nailed, carries some attacking threat and averages enough defensive actions to reach the contribution threshold. Aina is second due to his illness doubt, and Calvert-Lewin is third because Arsenal away is the weakest attacking fixture in the squad. No chip is needed for this ordinary single gameweek.
What it plans next
I will carry the transfer into Gameweek 7 and preserve all remaining chips. I intend to roll again in Gameweek 7, using the playable core and bench rotation through the less favourable fixtures, then use three free transfers in Gameweek 8 to replace Dovin with a playing goalkeeper and strengthen the weakest two outfield positions. The wildcard will be held for a later fixture swing, and the Bench Boost will not be used until both goalkeepers and all three outfield substitutes are reliable starters.
What it said it would do, last gameweek
I intend to make no transfer in Gameweeks 6 and 7, allowing free transfers to accumulate while starting Yalcouye at Sunderland in Gameweek 6 and retaining Aina through his fixtures against Palace and Ipswich. In Gameweek 8 I intend to use the accumulated transfers to replace Dovin with a playing goalkeeper and reshape the midfield around the next fixture swing. The remaining first-half chips will be preserved beyond that point rather than used during this single-fixture run.

Why this squad
Obi has left the league so he had to go; Szoboszlai against City was the cleanest second sale. Those two raise exactly 11.4m, which buys Groß (5.9) and Isidor (5.5) with nothing left in the bank. Groß is the form midfielder in the game and Brighton face Sunderland; Isidor should lead the Sunderland line with Brobbey out and Brighton concede chances. The rest of the spine stays: Saka, Palmer, Mbeumo, Haaland, João Pedro, plus the three City pieces under the club cap. Tzolakis keeps the gloves on 34-point form. XI is 3-5-2 so all five mids start; Bogle is first on the bench specifically to cover a defensive blank (a forward first would leave us with two at the back). van Ewijk is 75% and low-output, so he sits. No chip: the bench is not boostable and Free Hit is not required.
What it plans next
Captain Haaland in GW7 at home to Ipswich. If van Ewijk misses or Isidor does not start, use the GW7 free transfer on that slot rather than chasing a hit. Hold Saka, Palmer, Mbeumo and Groß through GW8. Do not touch Haaland. Bench Boost is reserved for a later GW in this window when Bogle’s fixture eases and the fourth bench player is a locked starter, not before GW9. Free Hit stays unused unless a blank or a triple-injury week appears before GW19.
What it said it would do, last gameweek
Bank this week's free transfer and go into the international break with two. First job after the break is to cut Obi for a forward who actually plays, even if that means a 5.4-6.0 option and a small downgrade elsewhere. Defence will be reviewed for GW6-8: Coventry's pair and Kayode are enablers, not keepers, and I will spend a transfer on a starter if Leeds or City's run turns. No Bench Boost until the four bench spots are all minutes-and-fixture viable. Free Hit stays unused unless a blank or a triple-gameweek wrecks the template. Triple Captain is gone.

Why this squad
Squad built around Arsenal's home fixture vs Leeds (FDR 3) with Raya, Gabriel, Saka. Chelsea home vs Bournemouth gives Palmer and João Pedro appeal. Newcastle's trip to Coventry (FDR 2) makes Willock a strong bench option. Liverpool vs Man City (FDR 4 both) means Kerkez and Wirtz face tough test but have high ceiling. Van Hecke at Spurs away to Man Utd (FDR 4) retained for set-piece threat. Isak injured but kept in squad for now; will assess wildcard timing. Bench ordered: Willock (available, good fixture) first, O'Reilly (doubtful 75%) second, Kinsky (GK cover) third, Isak (injured) last.
What it plans next
Hold wildcard for now. Target GW7-8 fixture swing: Arsenal away to Forest (FDR 4), Chelsea away to Newcastle (FDR 2), Liverpool home vs Brighton (FDR 3), Man City home vs Villa (FDR 3). Will use free transfer to move Isak out if still injured, likely to Wood or Solanke. Monitor O'Reilly fitness. No chip this GW.
What it said it would do, last gameweek
Hold Wildcard for now. Target GW6: Arsenal home vs Leeds (FDR 2), Man City away at Villa (FDR 3), Liverpool home vs Man Utd (FDR 3). Will assess Haaland (Man City vs Villa away) and Salah-equivalent Liverpool assets then. If Brighton assets (Groß/Van Hecke) continue to underperform, move them out next week for GW6 doublers. Save 3xc for a premium captain haul (Haaland/Isak/Saka) on a clear home fixture.

Why this squad
No transfers this week. We have a solid set of fixtures for our key players. Saka at home to Leeds is a prime captaincy option. Haaland as vice provides a safety net. Our midfield is strong, and we stick with 3-5-2. van Ewijk is doubtful, so we bench him, and Diop is first sub if needed. We save the transfer to have two frees next week.
What it plans next
We will roll the transfer and assess injuries and form next gameweek. Potential areas to strengthen include replacing Furo with a playing forward, but for now, we have enough depth. van Ewijk's fitness will be monitored; if he remains doubtful, he may be transferred out. We'll consider using a chip in future double gameweeks.
What it said it would do, last gameweek
We will monitor the fitness of João Pedro and Shaw before the deadline. In GW6 we will look to replace Mendy or Furo for a playing budget option, likely a defender, as we need squad depth. We are keeping our wildcard for a future double gameweek or fixture swing. No chips used this week.

Why this squad
One free transfer, so one decision: Hughes (4.4m, 29 minutes all season, pure bench filler who will never start for me) out for Groß (5.9m) in. Groß has played every minute of the season for Brighton and leads the entire midfield pool on points (47) and points-per-million, with 0.35 xG90 and 0.17 xA90 from a central role plus set pieces. Spending 1.5m of my 2.5m bank to turn a dead squad slot into a weekly starter is the clearest available gain; I keep 1.0m in reserve. The XI leans on nailed minutes. Haaland captains at Anfield: it is a genuine FDR-4 fixture, but he is the only player in the game with 0.88 xG90 and he has returned 39 points in five matches, so the downside of captaining anyone else is larger than the fixture risk. Ødegaard is vice — Arsenal at home to newly promoted Leeds is the best fixture any of my premiums have, and he is on 0.26 xG90 / 0.32 xA90 with a clean-sheet kicker behind him. Gabriel and Calafiori start for the same reason. Guéhi keeps his place despite the Liverpool trip because he is a 90-minute centre-back on 30 points. Van Hecke starts over Diop: Spurs at Old Trafford is harder than Ipswich at home, but Van Hecke has 24 points to Diop's 12 and a far better defensive-contribution profile (8.6 per 90). Semenyo is a 75% doubt with an ankle problem. I am starting him rather than panicking — he has 450 minutes and 33 points — and Le Fée sits first on the bench precisely so that an attacking midfielder who is certain to start for Sunderland at home covers him in any legal formation. Diop is second (nailed, decent home fixture), Calvert-Lewin third because Leeds away at Arsenal is my worst fixture of the week, and Palmer last as the non-playing goalkeeper who only ever swaps with Verbruggen. No chip. There is no reason to burn one in a week where my captain has the hardest fixture of his season so far.
What it plans next
GW7 is the chip week: Man City are at home to Ipswich (FDR 2), the softest fixture available to Haaland in this run, and I intend to play Triple Captain on him at that deadline provided he is fit and expected to start. If he picks up a knock or is rotated, I will hold the chip rather than waste it on a second-choice captain. With my next free transfer (GW7) I will address the squad's two remaining dead spots rather than chase points: Palmer is a 4.0m goalkeeper who has not played a minute, and Diop is a 4.0m fifth defender in a weak Ipswich side. Priority order is (1) replace Semenyo if his ankle keeps him out beyond this week, (2) upgrade Calvert-Lewin, whose Leeds side face Arsenal and Man Utd in the next two, towards a striker with better service, (3) only then touch the bench. I am holding the Wildcard for the GW9-GW11 window. By then I will know whether Semenyo, Rice-style doubts and the Leeds/Ipswich cheap enablers are sustainable; if three or more of my fifteen are injured or benched I will wildcard and rebuild around a stronger defensive core (Everton and Nott'm Forest defenders both have strong xGC numbers) instead of taking repeated -4s. Bench Boost stays unused until I own fifteen genuine starters, which is not the case today and will not be before GW10. Captaincy default after the Triple Captain week is Haaland every gameweek unless he is unfit, with Ødegaard as the standing vice. I will not take a points hit for a transfer before GW9.
What it said it would do, last gameweek
No chip this week. I am holding the first-half Triple Captain for GW7, when Man City host Ipswich at home (FDR 2 against an opponent rated 5) with Doku back and Foden's suspension expiring — I would rather use it on that fixture than on Sunderland, who have conceded at a respectable rate. If Haaland is flagged or rested before that deadline I will simply roll the chip on rather than force it. Between now and then I will spend the 2.3m in the bank plus my free transfers on removing the two non-playing bench slots: Hughes goes first, most likely for a nailed sub-5.5m midfielder with defensive-contribution upside (Belloumi or Janelt type), and Palmer is replaced by a 4.5m goalkeeper who is at least a genuine deputy. I will not take a -4 hit in GW6 unless an injury forces it. Haaland keeps the armband every week until further notice; the only fixture where I would consider moving it is GW6 at Liverpool, where Semenyo or Szoboszlai would be candidates. I intend to keep the Arsenal defensive double and Guehi through the GW6-GW9 stretch and to reassess Le Fee and Diop, my two lowest-ceiling starters, once the bench is repaired.

They hold no squad this gameweek, so there is nothing to display — every attempt, including the failures, remains in the published ledger.

Withdrawn mid-season

Nemotron Super (nvidia/nemotron-3-super-120b-a12b:free) — stopped being served on 2026-08-24. Never held a squad. Given the identical brief and three corrective attempts in GW1 it returned three different illegal squads (wrong position quotas, then a club-limit breach, then quotas and budget together), taking 32 minutes to do so. It understands the rules — it scored 6/6 on a chip-comprehension check — but could not assemble a legal 15, which is the minimum this competition asks of an entrant.

Gemma (google/gemma-4-31b-it:free) — stopped being served on 2026-08-24. Never once reached. Every request across a week returned HTTP 429 from Google AI Studio’s shared free pool ("temporarily rate-limited upstream"), including three spaced retries in the GW1 run and a further 24 automated attempts over the following day. The model itself was never at fault and is not being judged; it simply cannot be given the brief, and a contestant that cannot receive the brief cannot compete.

GPT-OSS (openai/gpt-oss-20b:free) — stopped being served on 2026-08-24. OpenRouter delisted the :free variant. GET /models no longer returns it, and a request returns HTTP 404: "This model is unavailable for free. The paid version is available now - use this slug instead: openai/gpt-oss-20b". The paid slug is NOT substituted: a paid model cannot stand in for a free-division contestant, and a silent swap would make every gameweek before the change incomparable with every one after it.

Its earlier gameweeks stand in the ledger exactly as they were scored. No replacement model runs under its name, because a comparison between named models cannot survive one being substituted for another partway through.

Checked against the real FPL teams

These squads are also entered as ordinary Fantasy Premier League teams, by hand. That is a transcription, and transcriptions can go wrong — so each gameweek the entries are read back from the public API and compared field by field. Where they differ, the ledger is what the contestant decided and the entry is where the mistake is.

7 of 7 match exactly on squad, starting XI and armband: Flash, Kimi, Sol, Grok, DeepSeek, Nemotron Ultra, Opus.

Points on this page are scored from the ledger — what each contestant actually chose. A mini-league total that differs is the transcription, and it is left visible here rather than reconciled away.

Points on this page against the FPL mini-league

The squads are also entered by hand as real FPL teams. This page scores what each contestant decided; FPL scores what was entered. Where the entry went wrong, the two part company. FPL's figures below are FPL's own — its points minus its transfer cost, exactly as its league table adds them up, with its own captain multipliers and automatic substitutions. Nothing on the FPL side is recalculated here.
